Character Profile: Al Azif
September 30, 2009 | Work in Progress |In the annals of H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos, Al Azif is the name originally given to the Necronomicon – an ancient tome of occult ritual known as a grimoire. In the world of Demonbane grimoires can take on several forms, including those of humanoid girls. This is how the game’s protagonist Daijuuji Kurou first encounters Al, who is in fact none other than the original Necronomicon itself.
Adapted to the period of modernity in which the game is set, grimoires give tremendous power to their owners and are highly sought after as weapons. It is Kurou’s good fortune that he encounters Al just in time to save himself, and her, from capture by the evil Black Lodge syndicate.
Al is logical, practical, bold, and capricious – everything that Kurou is not. When they form an alliance of convenience against a common enemy, neither could anticipate that they would find in each other something unique and precious…
This is Part 2 of our ongoing Demonbane Profiles series, where we highlight the people, places, and objects of importance in the world of Demonbane. Stay tuned for the next installment, coming soon!
